The University of Nebraska at Omaha was recognized for its commitment to volunteerism and mentorship on Tuesday by Partnership 4 Kids (P4K).
P4K – a leading Omaha youth development nonprofit that provides career and skill-focused programming – honored UNO with the 2023 P4K Neris France Star Mentor Advocate of the Year Award for its work as “an outstanding advocate for our 3,000 P4K students from elementary to post-secondary” at its annual Goal Achievement Honors Ceremony.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success Sammi Kaiser, Ph.D., accepted the award on UNO’s behalf and was accompanied by a group of Mavericks that included UNO Athletics athletes, coaches, and staff, as well as university deans.
During the ceremony at the Holland Performing Arts Center, P4K noted that each year UNO provides support that include numerous college tours for students as early as 4th grade, sponsorship of the Middle School Future’s Fair, and serving as Goal Buddies at Franklin Elementary.
P4K also recognized the 20 student-athletes and coaches from softball, men’s soccer, and cheer and dance who served as classroom mentors throughout the academic year, helping students set and achieve goals, share leadership skills, and provided instruction and guidance on many key life skills and career opportunities.
