Victoria Kohout will serve as the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s interim chief marketing and communications officer, Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, announced.
Kohout will lead the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications (MarComm) while continuing to serve as UNO’s chief of government and community relations – a role she has held since January 2022. Kohout first joined the university in 2019 as director of state and community relations on MarComm’s leadership team.
“Victoria brings to this role incredibly valuable experience communicating UNO’s message to our community and building relationships with stakeholders both internally and across the state,” Chancellor Li said. “The close ties she has developed with the MarComm leadership team after serving as a director prior to moving into her current role will serve her and the office well during this interim period.”
Kohout steps into the interim role after the recently named UNO Chief Marketing and Communications Officer opted to instead remain in their previous role with Omaha Public Schools. Sasha Thurin, who served as MarComm’s interim chief during the candidate search from January through July 2023 has returned to her duties as MarComm’s marketing director.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to reconnect with the MarComm team to tell the university’s story and advocate for its mission,” Kohout said. “Thank you to Sasha Thurin and the MarComm team for setting the office up for success as we navigate this transition together.”
A search for a full-time chief marketing and communications officer will begin during the Fall 2023 semester.
