The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is among the top 20 universities and colleges in the country for veterans according to the latest “Best for Vets” rankings released by Military Times.
UNO ranked 17th on the list of 325 universities nationwide and ranked highest on the list among institutions in Nebraska. The ranking marks the highest spot among any of the university’s peer institutions, and places UNO amongst the top 6% programs nationwide.
“These rankings are a testament of UNO’s commitment to the success of service members, veterans and their families who are enrolled at UNO,” Chase Kratochvil, director of federal and military relations at UNO said. “Many of our military-connected students at UNO are transitioning from military service to education or are balancing their current military duties with continuing education. UNO looks to holistically support our learners to ensure seamless access in order to empower our military-connected students, fostering their awareness and access to both campus and community resources geared towards academic success.”
The “Best for Vets” ranking is derived from comprehensive surveys disseminated to colleges and universities that assess the efficacy of veterans' programs and services they offer. In tandem with these surveys, Military Times analyzes public data sourced from the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
UNO has long been dedicated to serving those who serve, with a rich history that dates to the government’s Operation Bootstrap initiative in the late 1940s, which was designed to provide commissioned officers a chance to “lift themselves up by their bootstraps” by completing a degree in post-military life.
Established in 2012, the Military-Connected Resource Center (MCRC) at UNO takes on the role of a pivotal support hub for student success on campus. Tailored to cater to the needs of current and prospective military, veteran, and dependent students, the MCRC plays a crucial part in fostering their well-being throughout their enrollment. The center is dedicated to not only supporting and motivating these students to reach their educational goals and graduate successfully but also extends its services to encompass career guidance and assistance, solidifying its commitment to the holistic development of its military-connected student community.
