The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications (MarComm) protects the UNO brand and advances its reputation as a leading public research institution and urban metropolitan university of distinction. Working collaboratively through effective marketing, communication, and events, it informs the campus community, enhances public perception, and cultivates excitement among internal and external audiences.
In support of this mission, MarComm underwent a restructuring process in November. This restructure closely aligns related services and roles, creating a more cohesive and collaborative office to better serve the campus community.
Organization
MarComm’s restructured units include:
- Client Services (client support throughout projects)
- Creative Services (branding, design, marketing, photography, and videography)
- Digital Communications (internal communications, social media, and website)
- Editorial and Media Relations (features, media outreach, and reputation management)
- Events (universitywide and high-profile events)
Leadership
The office is led by interim Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Victoria Kohout, who also serves as UNO’s chief of government and community relations. Sasha Thurin, who served as MarComm’s interim chief during a candidate search from January through July 2023, is now MarComm’s Executive Director. Angie Kennedy is Director of Creative Services. Elizabeth Billington is Director of Digital Communications. Abbey Henrichs is Director of Events. Ashley Ostransky is Director of Operations. A search is underway for the Director of Editorial and Media Relations position.
