Josie Mortorff, Academic Advisor, in the Maverick Advising Center, was recently named the “Advisor of the Month” by the Academic Advising Council (AAC) for the month of April.
The award will be presented to Josie at the April Academic Advising Council meeting.
Mortorff’s nominators said, “Josie Mortorff is so deserving of recognition as Advisor of the Month. First, she is an outstanding advocate for students. For the past couple of weeks, she has been working diligently with a student who was struggling in a class. The student was not able to drop the course easily because of the impact it would have on SAP. Josie collaborated extensively with many folks to support the student, including the instructor, the Office of Financial Support and Scholarships, the Registrar’s Office, and me. Josie was able to find a creative solution, which resulted in the best possible outcome for the student. Throughout the entire process Josie was communicative, solution focused, and student centered. Second, Josie is a phenomenal colleague. Whenever I have the chance to share space with Josie, she always asks great, meaningful questions. She is thoughtful and kind. UNO is so lucky to have Josie in our Academic Advising community.”
Another said that “Josie is such a wonderful partner to have on campus! She's got so many amazing ideas on how to drive engagement among students and staff alike. She really inspires me to prioritize self-care in my professional and personal life which is so important for people in helping professions. Josie also has a beautifully creative mind and I always enjoy our brainstorming sessions on various projects we have cooking up! UNO is so lucky to have her!”
For being selected as the AAC Advisor of the Month, Mortorff will receive a certificate and gift card.
Nominate an Academic Advisor for the "Advisor of the Month Award"
If you know one of your colleagues has gone above and beyond in their exceptional service to students, their colleagues and/or the university, nominate them for the Advisor of the Month Award! Each month, one advisor will be selected at random from the nominations to receive the award at the Academic Advising Council meeting. All nominees will be recognized by AAC for their work.
Nominees must be at least .5 FTE whose primary role is academic advising. Once selected, advisors would not be eligible to receive the award again for one calendar year, although they can still be nominated in recognition of their work.
To nominate an academic advisor, complete the nomination form on the AAC website.
