The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Aviation Institute recently partnered with Werner Park to sponsor “Aviation Day” at the Omaha Storm Chasers game on Tuesday, June 18, in celebration of the park’s annual “Career Day” game.
Aviation student Tyler Thieman had the honor of singing the national anthem before the game began, while Scott Vlasek, director of the Aviation Institute, took to the mound for the game's first pitch.
Attendees eagerly lined up at the Aviation booth to test their skills on the mobile flight simulator, a popular attraction that gave fans the hands-on experience of piloting an aircraft. The booth also offered a variety of UNO Aviation swag, which was a big hit among visitors.
“The sponsorship provided us an opportunity to spark the interest of young children that one day will say, ‘I am at UNO because I went to a ball game, and they let me fly a simulator.’ I was hooked from that day on,” said Vlasek.
