Minsoo Goo, Career and Academic Advisor II, in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service Emergency Management and Disaster Science Program, was recently named the “Advisor of the Month” by the Academic Advising Council (AAC) for the month of August.
The award will be presented to Goo at the September Academic Advising Council meeting.
Minsoo’s nominator said, “Minsoo Goo brings strong assets to his role and our school is incredibly fortunate to have him as our Emergency Management and Disaster Science Advisor. Minsoo is dedicated and hardworking. He is extremely organized and focused on continuously learning and developing best practices to manage routine activities both efficiently and effectively. He brings a positive high energy and a personal touch to each student he meets with. When I began my term as chair, Minsoo had developed processes and procedures over the years for supporting students and faculty alike which thoroughly impressed me, as the program has gone through significant changes in staff and faculty the past year or so. No matter the change Minsoo has been consistency and has helped me and the new faculty start running, rather than scrambling to orient ourselves."
The nominator continued, "Minsoo brings true professional attributes to the Emergency Management and Disaster Science Program and genuinely cares about delivering excellent quality work. He strives to integrate both an understanding of the big picture strategy and goals (for the school, for the department), as well as attention to detail. Many times, I have approached Minsoo on a non-standard matter with only a vague idea in my mind of what we needed or wanted to do. He works with me to figure out what the area needed with minimal guidance from me, and then delivered on the task as well. He also always goes above and beyond the call of duty in pursuing excellence. For example, in supporting our students at a variety of university events including New Student Orientation, Durango Days and the Academic Advising Council Executive Team."
"Minsoo easily develops and fosters relationships with faculty, students, and our stakeholders. He actively participates in meetings and events; his participation enables him to understand the departments’ implicit needs and initiate ideas to support our efforts. Minsoo is terrific in welcoming our new faculty members and students, helping them adjust to the Emergency Management and Disaster Program and the School of Public Administration more generally. Minsoo is motivated and positively engaged, serving as true inspiration to all who enter Emergency Management and Disaster Science.”
For being selected as the AAC Advisor of the Month, Goo will receive a certificate and gift card.
Nominate an Academic Advisor for the "Advisor of the Month Award"
If you know one of your colleagues has gone above and beyond in their exceptional service to students, their colleagues and/or the university, nominate them for the Advisor of the Month Award! Each month, one advisor will be selected at random from the nominations to receive the award at the Academic Advising Council meeting. All nominees will be recognized by AAC for their work.
Nominees must be at least .5 FTE whose primary role is academic advising. Once selected, advisors would not be eligible to receive the award again for one calendar year, although they can still be nominated in recognition of their work.
To nominate an academic advisor, complete the nomination form on the AAC website.
