The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Friday, Oct. 25, in memory of retiree Mary Hamilton, Ph.D., who recently passed away. The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with Mary's loved ones during this time. No obituary or details of her funeral services are available at this time.

Dr. Hamilton was a long-time faculty member in the School of Public Administration. A national expert in public affairs before joining the UNO faculty in 2004, she served as the Executive Director of the American Society for Public Administration (1997 – 2004); the Senior Executive for the U.S. General Accounting Office (1979 – 1997); and the Manager of Energy Policy for The BDM Corporation (1975 – 1979), an aerospace systems and technical support company.
Her devotion to public service was exemplified as the Founder and Director of The Nebraska Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program, a Fellow in the National Academy of Public Administration, the Chair of the National CPM Consortium which accredits CPM programs throughout the U.S., and a member of the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Upon her retirement in 2021, Mary was named the Senior Executive in Residence for the School of Public Administration.
Faculty, staff, and students mourn the passing of Dr. Hamilton whose resourcefulness and support of public service and citizen engagement have become the hallmarks of UNO’s School of Public Administration.
