The highly anticipated Omaha edition of Monopoly was officially unveiled during a celebratory launch party held at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)’s Baxter Arena on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The event brought together university students, Omaha community leaders, and representatives from Top Trumps USA, the global licensing partner for Hasbro.
A Morning of Excitement and Community Pride
As the doors opened, attendees were greeted with the chance to test their Monopoly knowledge through a round of trivia hosted by Sarah Bowman, a representative from Top Trumps.
The event formally kicked off with Bowman welcoming the audience to Baxter Arena and introducing UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA.
"The University of Nebraska at Omaha is the only public, urban research university in both the University of Nebraska system and the city of Omaha. We are thrilled to welcome you to celebrate the unveiling of the Omaha edition of Monopoly,” said Chancellor Li. “As a central destination for our community, UNO congratulates all featured in this special edition and looks forward to strengthening our connections across Omaha."
Li then introduced Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, who highlighted the significance of Omaha's representation on the global stage through this Monopoly edition.
"Thank you to UNO, your students, and student-athletes for joining us today for this exciting reveal. The Omaha edition of Monopoly features many of our beloved landmarks—museums, historic sites, sports and entertainment venues, public spaces, retailers, and restaurants. These are places we all know and love, and with Monopoly showcasing Omaha’s attractions, we’re confident more people will want to visit and return often,” said Mayor Stothert.
Revealing Omaha’s Iconic Landmarks
In a nod to the competitive nature of the game, participants engaged in “minute-to-win-it” style competitions, with representatives of the selected properties coming forward to showcase their place on the board.
The Omaha edition of Monopoly highlights landmarks such as Memorial Park, Zorinsky Lake Park, Omaha Children’s Museum, Joslyn Art Museum, and Boys Town, along with popular venues like the Farmer’s Market, Nebraska Furniture Mart, V. Mertz, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
The green property set was particularly special for the UNO community, as it featured the University of Nebraska Omaha itself, alongside Werner Park and Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
A Grand Finale and Iconic Blue Properties
The event concluded with closing remarks from Bowman, thanking UNO, the Omaha community, and the students for their enthusiasm and participation.
Attendees were invited to stay for photos, enjoy complimentary coffee from Scooter’s, and indulge in ice cream from E Creamery, featuring special Monopoly-themed flavors like "Butter Brickle Boardwalk" and "Mint to Win."
A Unique Celebration of Omaha
The launch of the Omaha edition of Monopoly not only celebrated the city’s rich history and vibrant landmarks but also fostered a sense of community pride. This special edition of the game will allow Omaha families and visitors alike to enjoy a piece of the city in a fun and engaging way for years to come.
