The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) joined forces for the “The Things They Carry” Ruck March to draw attention to the mental health challenges faced by veterans. The event, which started at UNO’s Baxter Arena and ended at UNL’s Memorial Stadium, covered a symbolic 60 miles to honor the 22 veterans lost to suicide each day.
Participants, including students from both universities, marched together to raise awareness about the importance of mental health support for veterans. The march highlighted resources such as UNO’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and community partner At Ease, both of which offer vital support to veterans in need.
The event received coverage from both WOWT and KOLN, shedding light on the powerful collaboration between UNO and UNL, as well as the critical issue of veteran mental health.
