In conjunction with the National Weather Service Severe Weather Awareness Week and the Nebraska statewide tornado drill, UNO will conduct a test of the UNO Alert emergency notification system on Wednesday, March 26, at approximately 10 A.M. During this test, all faculty, staff, and students will receive a tornado warning test alert.
In planning for this test of the emergency alert system and the mock drill, individuals and departments should do the following:
-
Log in to UNO Alert prior to the test to verify and update your contact information.
-
Know the Difference
-
Tornado Watch: Be alert – conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form.
-
Tornado WARNING: Take Cover – either a tornado has been sighted, or radar has detected rotation.
-
-
Consult the Emergency Procedures Resources in your area to determine the closest severe weather safe area in your area.
-
Use the drill to practice how to respond in a “real world” event and, afterward, identify opportunities to improve the plan. While you are not required to go to a severe weather safe area, use the opportunity to identify (and find) the location you would have used.
This drill serves as a critical reminder to be prepared for severe weather. Taking a few minutes to plan ahead could make all the difference in a real emergency.
After the drill, please take a moment to complete a short evaluation survey.
If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Emergency Management at emergencymgmt@unomaha.edu.
