The partnership between UNO and the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) was awarded the 2019 Excellence in Community Partner Engagement Award. The P-16 Initiative aims to connect K-12 and University of Nebraska at Omaha students with nonprofit community partners through the development of collaborative academic service learning experiences. Since 2010, the P-16 Initiative has engaged over 11,000 UNO students and over 19,000 K-12 students in 631 projects. Each year, students provide approximately 40,000 hours. In each project, UNO and K-12 students are able to apply classroom knowledge into real-world situations to better the community – resulting in better comprehension of academic concepts and an increased sense of civic engagement. |
