The UNO homepage serves a wide readership, with priority given to prospective students, faculty, and staff with a secondary audience of current students, faculty, and staff as well as the larger UNO community. The content is managed by the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications (MarComm) and is guided by a strategy to ensure it remains relevant, dynamic, and engaging.
The Content Strategy Behind UNO’s Homepage
The content on the UNO homepage has to meet three goals every day. A content strategy ensures that the information we share every day is consistent with these goals.
The photos, feature stories, news articles, and events must work together to:
- Support the university’s academic and strategic priorities as we continue to grow our student population and our campus.
- Promote our presence as Nebraska’s premier metropolitan university and the city in which we are located.

Homepage Photo Selection Process
All homepage stories should reflect high-level concepts about the university and its programs, students, faculty, staff, resources, alumni, and signature events, or be used to promote general UNO brand awareness that drives prospective students to find programs and apply.
For example, photos may include (but are not limited to) content that helps a current or prospective student answer one or more of the following questions:
- Why should I go to UNO or continue going to UNO?
- What makes UNO unique?
- How can I cheer on the Mavericks?
- What UNO professors or alumni are making waves in their chosen field?
- What is student and campus life like at UNO?
- How does UNO contribute to my eight dimensions of wellness?
- Where can my UNO education take me?
- What are some ways I can get involved on campus and in the community?
- How is UNO breaking new ground in education and beyond?
- What support is available for students?
- How does UNO impact the local and global community?
- What support is available for students?
Homepage News Section Content
The "News" section of the homepage is populated by stories placed within the UNO News Center.
Four stories will appear on the homepage and are curated and created by the Content Manager. Stories may vary greatly in focus and time sensitivity, including feature stories about campus highlights and the UNO community in addition to traditional news releases.
A complete archive of these stories can be viewed by clicking the "View More" button within the news center.
Homepage Events Section Content
Four items will appear on the homepage "Events" section and will phase on and off automatically in a chronological manner.
All featured events should be high-level, university-sponsored events, with a universitywide appeal, and a general focus on current and prospective students. Applicable universitywide academic or financial calendar items/deadlines will also be included.
Priority will be given to events held on campus, those which foster the academic and strategic priorities and goals of the UNO Strategic Plan, and help a current or prospective student answer one or more of the following questions:
- Why should I go to UNO or continue going to UNO?
- What makes UNO unique?
