Non-Discrimination Policies
The University of Nebraska does not discriminate based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation in its education programs or activities, including admissions and employment. The University prohibits any form of retaliation taken against anyone for reporting discrimination, harassment, or retaliation for otherwise engaging in protected activity.

The University of Nebraska Omaha prohibits sexual harassment, including sexual violence. This policy is applicable to all university administered programs including educational programs, financial aid, admission policies and employment policies.

Executive Memorandum No. 40
The University of Nebraska recognizes that some members of the University community use chosen names to identify themselves. A University community member’s chosen name can and should be used wherever possible in the course of University education, business, and communication. The goal of this policy is a consistent chosen name experience and use of one’s chosen name across the University System.
The University of Nebraska recognizes that some members of the University community self-assert a gender other than their sex. An individual’s gender identity can and should be Executive Memorandum No. 40 used where possible in the course of University education, business, and communication. Gender identity should be used in place of sex or binary gender values where possible and appropriate.
University Legal Name Change Process
To change your name at UNO, complete the Change of Personal Information Form and submit your new driver’s license with your chosen name in order to have your name or social security number changed by the Office of the University Registrar, 105 Eppley Administration Building.

Updating Your Chosen Name, Gender Identity, and Pronouns with UNO
In MavLINK for Student or FireFly for Faculty and Staff, update the "Chosen Name," "Gender Identity," and "Pronouns" fields without any legal documentation. The following will reflect these changes versus legal name, but not limited to:
- Class Rosters
- Grade Rosters
- Degree Audit
- Learning Management Systems
- University Directories
- Official University Email Name
- To update email address, submit Account Rename Request with ITS Services
- Campus/University ID Cards (Front)
- Awards Certificates
- Human Resources, Student Information, and Business Systems, where applicable
- Where legal name is not required
Instances in which the Official Name of Record will be used include, but are subject to change and not limited to:
- Official and Unofficial Transcripts
- Student Clearinghouse
- IRS Documentation (e.g. 1098-T, W2, 1095C)
- Scholarship and Financial Aid Processing
- Student Consolidated Bill
- Campus/University ID Cards (Back)
- Human Resources Systems (e.g. Remuneration, Insured Benefits)
- Public Directory Information Requests from Third Parties
- Benefit Vendor Documents
- Press Releases
- Data Transmitted to Governmental Agencies or Servicing Agencies
- When Required by Law
At this time, chosen names will appear on the front of campus/University ID cards; and
the official name of record will be printed on the back for students, faculty, and staff. Please contact Cassie Neal at cassieneal@unomaha.edu with any questions about this process.
Update Your MavCARD for FREE
Once your name has been changed at the Registrar’s office, you can go to MavCARD services, 2nd floor Milo Bail Student Center, and request a new MavCARD free of charge if it is a change for gender identity.
To change your diploma, you can order a duplicate diploma with your new name for a $30 fee. Please complete the Duplicate Diploma Request Form, along with a Change of Personal Information form, and submit it to the Office of the University Registrar, 105 Eppley Administration Building. The new diploma should arrive within three to five weeks.
