The impact of Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center will be felt far beyond UNO and Omaha. In late 2023, a formal design study and program evaluation statement will be initiated for a permanent facility on UNO’s campus to be built
This permanent facility will house:
- The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center
- Temporary exhibition space
- The Sam & Frances Fried Holocaust & Genocide Academy
- The Leonard and Shirley Goldstein Center for Human Rights
- The Natan & Hannah Schwalb Center for Israel & Jewish Studies
- UNO’s Office of Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion
- Academic classrooms and gathering spaces
As a global and intellectual hub, it will serve as an educational center for scholars and teachers working in art history, the Holocaust, and human rights.
In this way, it will offer not only a path to understanding our collective history but a promise of hope. While Bak’s art traverses difficult subject matter, it is also very much about beauty, joy, and hope.
If there is no hope, as the artist has repeatedly said, then there is no life.
