About Nick
Nick Oegema was named the Director of UNO’s Office of Accessibility Services (ASC), effective March 1, 2024. Nick has been in higher education for over 10 years, half of them at UNO. He has served as The Associate Director of ASC since 2022.
In his new role, he will lead ASC's efforts to collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure access to reasonable and appropriate student disability accommodations. Nick is focused on creating a fully accessible, inclusive experience for student learning, campus engagement, and residential life.
He serves on the UNO Care Team and is active in the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) which is the premier national and regional professional organization for disability resource professionals.
Nick comes to his new role with experiences that make particularly relatable to a diverse student population. He was a college dropout who eventually completed a bachelor's degree in secondary social science and a master's in education administration. He also shares openly that he has a formal diagnosis of ADHD which deepens his commitment to the students ASC serves.
Nick is both a first-generation immigrant (to Canada) and an immigrant (to the US). He is happily married to his wife, Nikki, and they enjoy relaxing and hanging out with their three cats. Nick is currently dabbling in hydroponic gardening.
