Our Vision

At the UNO English Department, we empower students to harness the transformative power of language. Through a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, effective and creative communication, and cultural competency, our mission is to cultivate adept, empathetic, and civic-minded individuals prepared for the dynamic challenges of the future.

We offer an array of courses that cater to varied interests and aspirations. Whether engaging with diverse literary traditions, studying rhetorical and technical communication, or exploring creative nonfiction, our students receive an expansive and enriching educational experience.

Our coursework equips students with portable skills essential for success across a variety of career paths. Graduates of our program emerge not only as skilled communicators and analytical thinkers, but also as adaptable professionals sought after by employers in fields ranging from publishing, marketing, and media to government and public service. Our alumni excel as writers, editors, educators, and leaders, leveraging their training to make meaningful contributions in an increasingly interconnected world.
