Change of Campus Address and Forwarding Mail
If you have a change in your campus location it is your responsibility to notify UNO Mail Services.
Submit a change of address form online
The forwarding of campus mail is a service only offered to UNO faculty and staff or anyone with a unit box through UNO Mail Services.
University Housing/Student Mail Service
Students are responsible for their own mail. The best way to prevent delays is make sure UNO Mail Services has your correct address information.
UNO Mail Services – not the US Postal Service USPS – is responsible for delivering and forwarding all mail entering the university, this includes University Housing (residential) mail.
Addressing Mail
Address your mail correctly to prevent delays. Your housing unit director can provide you with the directions for proper mail addressing or you can review the information in the Housing Handbooks.
The box where you receive mail is not a P.O. Box.
It is considered a residential unit number. If you provide your address using the term “P.O. Box” you will experience delivery delays (up to or beyond a week).
Use standard postal abbreviations to ensure delivery.
Tracking Packages
When tracking packages on a carrier web site (e.g. UPS), the status of “Delivered” does not mean the item is within UNO Mail Services. Delivery scans can be two or three days prior to our facility receiving a particular item. If you have concerns, contact the mailroom. We are happy to track any item using the correct tracking number. We can use carrier tracking and internal tracking.
Moving/Forwarding Mail
It is your responsibility to provide correct forwarding information when you checkout of your housing unit.
Include:
- New street address
- Apartment
- Suite or room numbers
- City, state and ZIP code
UNO has a unique ZIP code 68182. The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver your mail and will not forward mail when you leave residential housing.
No forwarding is done for international addresses, you must give your senders proper addressing when you leave university housing.
You are responsible for updating any person, business or institution that sends you billing, subscriptions,W2ss or personal mail.
UNO Mail Services will only forward first class and periodical mail for six (6) months beginning the date University Housing notifies us of your forwarding information. All mail received after the six-month period will be returned to sender as undeliverable.
If you created a forwarding using USPS Form 3575 to the 68182 ZIP code, when you move out and return to the original address listed on USPS Form 3575 (e.g.: a parent’s home) you must visit a local USPS facility in person to stop the move forward.
UNO Mail Services cannot assist with the stop forward but any branch of the USPS can assist you. Mail forwarded by UNO to the original address will be returned to UNO then back to the USPS creating a substantial delivery delay.
UPS and FedEx do not forward, it is returned to sender as unaccepted.
If you move out and plan to return to university housing, be sure to have our office notified so we can stop forwarding your mail once residence has been reestablished even if you move to different housing (e.g. Maverick Village to University Village).
Bulk Mail
Large quantities of mail can be prepared for mailing at reduced rates. Two hundred pieces or more of identical information qualifies as Bulk Mail. Please deliver in ZIP code order, if possible. For a small fee, the UNMC Print Shop will label, fold, insert, sort, seal, tab, and meter mail.
National Change of Address list cleansing is a requirement by the USPS for reduced rate mailings. Please submit list files to unmcmailservice@unmc.edu.
For more information and a list of rates, contact the Mail Services supervisor at 402.559.5315.
