Research in Philosophy
There are numerous opportunities for students of the Department of Philosophy to engage in research both on and off campus. We encourage students to check out some of what they can do to further their academic interests, be it taking an independent study with one of our faculty members or submitting papers to conferences and journals!
Independent Studies
If you're interested in doing further research on a subject in philosophy that fascinates you and you'd like to work one-on-one with one of our faculty members, consider taking an independent study.
FUSE Grants
Have an interesting idea for a research project and need some funding? Consider applying for a FUSE grant and receive up to $2500 for your project! These funds include an individual stipend.
Undergraduate Journals
If you have a paper you're particularly proud of, you should consider submitting it to an undergraduate journal. Having a publication under your belt can be beneficial, especially if applying to graduate programs.
Conferences
Submitting papers to conferences is a great way to get some public speaking experience and really useful feedback. Conferences are also a great way to meet like-minded individuals who share a passion for philosophy!
One great way to expand the reach of your research is to study abroad! Visiting new places and being exposed to those with a different background can be an eye-opening and highly valuable experience. Importantly, it can help place what you're working on into a broader context. Interested? Check out our page on the study abroad program!
