Start Getting Published
If you've written a strong essay which you've presented at a conference, you should consider submitting it to an undergraduate journal. Publishing what you've written is an excellent way to engage with the philosophical community, and it can help bolster graduate applications and your CV.
Before Submitting
You should note that different journals have different requirements. Some journals impose stricter word limits than others or accept papers that fall within narrowly defined topics. Before submitting a paper, be sure to familiarize yourself with the needs of the journals you're considering. Furthermore, you should ensure that your paper is in the best shape you can reasonably manage. You should be aware of the fact that some journals can take some time to get back to you, and most require that you not submit your paper to any other journals while undergoing the peer review process.
Here's a list of some of what you should do before submitting your paper to an undergraduate journal:
- Have at least one of your professors read through your paper and provide you with feedback.
- Consider submitting your paper to undergraduate conferences first.
- Check through the style guide of whichever journal you're considering and make sure your paper follows the requirements.
- Be cognizant of whether your paper fits the theme of your chosen journal.
