After graduating summa cum laude from UNO in 1986 with a BSBA in accounting, Sandra Peters jointed KPMG's Omaha office. In 1992, Peters earned an MBA in finance from Indiana University, then returned to KPMG. She transferred to New York in 1995 where she specialized in serving public audit clients in the financial guarantee insurance and reinsurance sectors of the insurance industry. In 1998, she earned the CFA designation and jointed KPMG's U.S. Capital Markets Group in London. She was admitted to the partnership in 2000 and returned to KPMG's New York office.
Peters joined MetLife as vice president and corporate controller in 2004 where she led the SEC reporting, technical accounting, SOX controls, and HR controllers groups. She led key aspects of the Travelers’ acquisition and integration, the adoption of key accounting standards and the financial reporting process during the financial crisis.
In 2009, Peters joined the CFA Institute as the head of the financial reporting policy group. She acts as spokesperson for the CFA Institute to key financial reporting standard-setters.
In 2012, Peters became a member of the IFRS Interpretations Committee. She is also a member of the Center for Audit Quality’s (CAQ’s) SEC Regulations Committee and the FASB’s Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council. She is a past member of the AICPA’s Insurance Expert Panel.
Peters is a CPA licensed in New York, Texas, and Nebraska and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York Society of Securities Analysts (NYSSA).
