Have a bachelor's degree and want to teach at the middle or high school level?
The Teacher Academy Project (TAP) is an accelerated secondary education certification program designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor's degree and aspire to become a middle or high school teacher.
The program aims to increase the number of teacher candidates with certification in high demand areas, such as math, science, and world language.
This accelerated program is offered once a year and allows for completion of the certification requirements in as little as one calendar year (June-May). Graduate credit hours earned in the program may be applied to the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education.
Application Requirements for the Teachers Academy Program >>
Secondary teacher certification is a two-step process:
- Complete all of the required endorsement classes in your subject area.
- Complete the required teacher certification classes.
TAP candidates may choose one of two pathways, Residency or Para and complete a combination of undergraduate and graduate coursework in a participating Metropolitan Omaha Educational Consortium (MOEC) district.
Pathway 1: TAP Residency
The TAP Residency pathway allows individuals to be hired by a district to teach full-time in the classroom while working on their certification courses in the evenings and on weekends.
Pathway 2: TAP Para
The TAP Para pathway includes a 20 hrs./week work requirement as a Paraprofessional in a participating district.
