An area of concentration in General Science is a broad study of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics. It can provide the knowledge necessary to pursue careers or further study in any of those areas.
Concentration Requirements (Blocks 1 & 2)* | 49-50 hours |
---|---|
CHEM 1180/1184 General Chemistry I/Lab | 4 hours |
CHEM 1190/1194 General Chemistry II/Lab | 4 hours |
PHYS 1110/1154 OR PHYS 2110/1154 General Physics I/Lab | 5 hours |
PHYS 1120/1164 OR PHYS 2120/1164 General Physics II/Lab | 5 hours |
MATH 1950 Calculus I OR MATH 1930 Calculus for Managerial, Life, and Social Science AND MATH 1530 Introduction to Probability and Statistics. | 5-6 hours |
BIOL 1450 Biology I | 5 hours |
BIOL 1750 Biology II | 5 hours |
GEOL 1170 Physical Geology | 4 hours |
Additional 12 hours of electives at the 2000 level or higher in at least two of the following disciplines: Biology (BIOL), Chemistry (CHEM), Physics (PHYS), Geology (GEOL), Geography (GEOG). Geography courses must be from a physical science perspective. | 12 hours |
* Must include at least 12 hours of upper level credit completed at UNO
A minimum of 120 hours are required for the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies degree.
Additional Information:
- A minimum of 30 hours must be used in the General Science concentration; any additional hours beyond the 30 may be used to meet the General Education requirements in Natural and Physical Sciences
- The upper level credit requirement in this area of concentration may come from Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the lower level, if the courses are beyond the requirements listed above. Courses beyond Math 1960 and Geology 1180 may also be used. However, no credit from a community college will be considered upper level in the concentration.
