In anticipation of the upcoming "Wear Black, Give Back: Day of Giving," the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is buzzing with excitement. Set to commence at noon on Wednesday, November 8th, and continue through noon on Thursday, November 9th, this event promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. UNO Mavericks are preparing for a 24-hour fundraising journey with the goal of making a significant impact on scholarships, colleges, programs, student groups, inclusion, and wellness.
The objective set before the UNO community is ambitious: to secure a remarkable 4,000 gifts within a single day. This year's "Wear Black, Give Back" campaign has ignited a collective spirit in the hearts of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. It presents an opportunity to unite and work towards a common goal, making a meaningful difference in the lives of UNO students and the causes that matter most.
Among these causes is the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS). CPACS houses esteemed programs in aviation, criminology, criminal justice, emergency management, gerontology, public administration, and social work, consistently ranking among the best in the region and the nation. The college's commitment to addressing vital social needs in the community and the state has solidified its place in UNO's mission.
"Wear Black, Give Back" is not just a call for financial contributions; it's an invitation to be part of transformative change. Generous donations during this event will directly impact scholarships, providing educational opportunities and crucial financial support to CPACS students. Additionally, the funds raised will empower students to access additional resources to navigate their academic journeys successfully.
This initiative's reach extends further as donations will fuel faculty and staff research projects, fostering innovation and progress in fields such as aviation, criminology, criminal justice, emergency management, gerontology, public administration, and social work. Furthermore, these contributions will enable UNO to host inspiring and engaging speakers, motivating students, faculty, staff, and alumni/community partners to reach new heights and achieve more.
Dean John Bartle of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service has issued a challenge. He pledges a personal gift of $1,000 if 300 individuals step up to support CPACS during "Wear Black, Give Back." This challenge holds special significance as Dean Bartle prepares to transition from his role as dean to a faculty position in public administration at the end of June.
The UNO community is poised to embrace this opportunity with unwavering enthusiasm, determined not only to meet the challenge but to exceed it, making "Wear Black, Give Back" the most successful event in CPACS and UNO history.
As the sun sets on November 9th, the impact of this day of giving will be felt far and wide. It will transform CPACS at UNO, showcasing the incredible power of collective effort and the indomitable spirit of UNO Mavericks. Scholarships will be funded, research opportunities will flourish, and inspirational speakers will inspire. The future will shine brighter for CPACS students and the community they are destined to serve.
The excitement is palpable, and the future is promising. "Wear Black, Give Back" isn't just a day of giving; it's a movement, a collective drive towards creating a brighter future for all. UNO Mavericks are ready to wear black with pride, united by a common purpose – to make a real, lasting difference.
