Goodrich Scholarship Program Honored with Diversity Award
The Goodrich Scholarship Program has been recently honored as recipients of the Nebraska State Bar Association (NSBA) Diversity Award for 2016. The honor is to recognize the outstanding efforts made by firms, organizations, or individual attorneys in promoting diversity in the legal profession in the State of Nebraska.The NSBA will present the 2016 Diversity award during their 2016 annual meeting in October.
NSBA Executive Director Elizabeth Neely wrote “The Goodrich Scholarship Program is exactly the type of program needed to support first generation students and/or students from underrepresented populations who may want to pursue a career in law but do not know how to get there or are overwhelmed at the prospect.The program provides leadership, guidance, and inspiration for all Goodrich scholars, making the program a deserving recipient of this award.”
Goodrich Scholarship Program alums Arianna Crum (BSSW and MSW) and Roxana Cortés (BS in Foreign Language and Literature, Latino/Latin American Studies, and Psychology) both graduated from the Nebraska College of Law in May 2016.
The Goodrich Scholarship Program is a nationally recognized and award-winning merit-and-need-based scholarship program that is part of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service at UNO. The Goodrich Program continues to live up to its reputation as a place for the development or facilitation of academic excellence, leadership skills, and community service demonstrated by Goodrich’s 2015/2016 unprecedented retention rate of 96% (compared to 77% for UNO, according to UNO’s 2015/2016 UNO Advantage publication) and Goodrich’s 6-year-graduation rate of 63% for the 2009 cohort (compared to 47% for UNO’s 2009 cohort, according to UNO’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness).
