The Center for Public Affairs Research (CPAR), as a member of Advance: Innovation and Safety in Transit, worked with the U.S. FTA, National Rural Technical Assistance Program (NRTAP), Nebraska and Colorado NDOTs, and Nebraska Association of Transportation Providers to bring the NRTAP Technical Assistance Conference to Omaha in October 2017.
Hundreds of rural and tribal transit agencies and their state and federal government partners attended this third biennial conference to share best practices, updates to federal and state training and regulatory requirements, and new methods and technologies to serve their customers. Keynote speakers included FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams, Olympic Gold Medalist Billy Mills, and productivity and happiness guru Kristina Cerise.
Several members of the UNO community participated in the conference. Five faculty members, five staff members, and seven students attended the conference.
Two faculty members from the School of Public Administration, Yu-Che Chen, Ph.D., and Jooho Lee, Ph.D., presented, “Designing and Implementing Website and Online Information Systems for Rural Transit Services in the State of Nebraska” during the Technology for State Data Collection Systems session. The presentation was based on work funded by the Advance partnership.
Doctoral students Bit An, Yunseung Kim, and Suyang Yu, School of Public Administration, and graduate students, Sai Aditya Vogeti Venkata and Chethan Miriyala, College of Information Science & Technology, submitted three entries for the student poster session and swept the podium. An’s poster, “Mobility Management: How to Measure the Performance of Mobility Management” took first place. The posters were based on work funded by the Advance partnership.
Members of CPAR staff also served on the planning committee, designed the conference logo and conference materials, and staffed the registration and information booths.
