Opportunities to Engage
UNO’s general education curriculum is evolving, and with it comes an opportunity for faculty and staff to help shape its impact. Whether you’re looking to redesign a course, enhance your teaching strategies, or engage in deeper conversations about student learning, we invite you to be part of this exciting transformation. Through a series of workshops and professional learning communities, we are creating spaces where faculty can come together, exchange ideas, and ensure that general education is meaningful and effective for our students.
Design or redesign your course to align with UNO’s revised General Education requirements—join the incentivized MavEd Course Design Workshop to create a course ready to submit for approval.
- MavEd Course Design Workshops – Realizing the Hope of General Education: General Education and the Center for Faculty Excellence will offer an incentivized, 8-week professional development workshop on designing, or redesigning, courses that align with UNO’s revised General Education requirements. These workshops include two in-person meetings and an asynchronous Canvas course and will be available each academic term (summer, fall, and spring), beginning this summer. Upon completion of the workshop, a faculty member will have developed a course that is ready to submit to the general education course approval process.
- In Spring 2025, the workshop was piloted with a small group of faculty to refine the program for broader implementation in future semesters. Faculty can express their interest in participating during a future term by completing this short interest form. Additional details about upcoming opportunities will be shared soon. Interested faculty can contact Matt Tracy with questions.
Enhance your teaching in UNO’s revised general education curriculum—beginning in Fall 2025, join the incentivized MavEd Orientation to refine your strategies, support student success, and gain valuable insights.
- MavEd Orientation: Teaching for Impact in UNO’s Revised Gen Ed Curriculum – Not every faculty member will be involved in general education course (re)design, but all faculty teaching within the curriculum play a vital role in its success. Unlike the MavEd Course Design Workshops, which focus on developing or redesigning courses, the incentivized MavEd Orientation is designed for faculty who are not involved in course design but still want to enhance their teaching within the new framework. This initiative is for faculty who want to (1) Better understand the expectations of UNO’s revised general education curriculum, (2) Refine their teaching strategies to create more engaging and impactful learning experiences, (3) Explore ways to support student success in general education courses, (4) Gain insights into general education assessment practices.
- MavEd Orientation launches in Fall 2025 and will continue in future semesters. More details, including dates and times, will be shared at the start of the term. If you would like to express your interest in participating, please complete this short form. For questions, contact Matt Tracy.
Join the MavEd Innovators PLC this fall to collaborate with peers, explore best practices, and drive innovation in general education at UNO.
- MavEd Innovators Professional Learning Community (PLC): Advancing General Education Across Campus: Some of the most powerful transformations happen in ongoing conversations with peers. That’s why we are launching the MavEd Innovators Professional Learning Community (PLC) which we envision as a space where faculty and staff can collaborate, exchange ideas, and push the boundaries of general education together. Unlike the Course Design Workshop, which focuses on individual course alignment, the PLC will address the broader context of the curriculum by exploring how we innovate, support each other, and make general education stronger across the university. Together, we will discuss best practices in teaching and learning, find new ways to celebrate faculty innovation and successes, and foster a campus-wide culture of continuous improvement in general education.
- Faculty can express their interest in participating by completing this short interest form. Additional details will be shared in the Fall. Interested faculty can contact Matt Tracy with questions.
