Hamas' attack on Israel and the ensuing conflict in the Middle East have heightened tensions worldwide, raising concerns about the security of Jewish, Muslim, and other faith-based communities at home and abroad. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports an increase in threats against these institutions, with the most likely threat coming from lone offenders motivated by violent ideologies.
On Oct. 27, NCITE explored this issue at an online discussion with Samantha Vinograd, assistant secretary for counterterrorism, threat prevention, and law enforcement policy at DHS.
"My greatest hope is that we create a culture of prevention here in this country that can help mitigate these threats at the earliest possible stage," Vinograd said, "and that we somehow get past this truly horrific moment where hate is being normalized and violence is being normalized."
