In November, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) International Studies and Programs office will once again host “International Education Week,” which is designed to highlight the importance of global engagement.
This year’s event will unofficially launch with the hosting of the 2014 Batchelder Biblical Archeology Conference on Thursday, Nov. 13, through Saturday, Nov. 15, to be followed by events running Monday, Nov. 17, through Friday, Nov. 21.
With more than 2,000 international students from 117 different countries, and dozens of study abroad opportunities each semester, UNO is home to one of the most diverse campuses in the region.
Now in its 15th year, UNO’s International Education Week will include a wide variety of events, including:
International Photo Contest (Nov. 14 – 21)
Students, faculty and staff will submit their best international photo for a chance to win prizes. Photos will be displayed in the Criss Library from Friday, Nov. 14, through the following week with official voting on the winners taking place from Nov. 14 through Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Charles Gildersleeve “Know Your World” Lecture (Nov. 17)
UNO Political Science professor Ramazan Kilinc will speak and answer questions about U.S.- Turkish relations and the war against ISIS. The event will be held in the Milo Bail Student Center Chancellor’s Room and is free and open to the public.
Free pizza and soda will also be available.
Open Door Mission Service Outreach (Nov. 18)
Students, faculty and staff will visit the Open Door Mission in Omaha to serve food, sort clothing and make gift baskets. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Café Internationle (Nov. 20)
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Arts and Science Hall, International Studies and Programs will host an open house with refreshments, music and display tables for many of the 100-plus countries represented at UNO. Photo contest winners and prizes will also be announced.
Nebraska Neighbors (Nov. 21, 22)
During the final days of International Education Week, UNO international students will travel to West Point, NE, for two days of intercultural exchange through area schools, businesses and farms.
Additionally, throughout the week, the UNO Food Court will highlight international cuisine each day, with meals such as Moroccan Beef Stew, Tandoori Chicken and Pork Schnitzel being offered.
