OMAHA – Family, friends and loved ones of the more than 1000 University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) graduates will come to campus on Saturday, Dec. 20 for UNO’s 2014 December Commencement.
This December’s commencement ceremonies will once again be held inside the Lee and Helene Sapp Fieldhouse on the UNO campus.
Ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, celebrating bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree recipients from the Summer and Fall 2014 semesters.
The 9 a.m. event will feature the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral-level graduates from the colleges of Arts and Sciences; Education; Engineering (UNL); and Communication, Fine Arts and Media. The 2 p.m. event will feature graduates from the colleges of Business Administration; Public Affairs and Community Service; Information Science and Technology; and UNL College of Education and Human Sciences.
Fieldhouse doors will open at 7 a.m. for the 9 a.m. ceremony and at noon for the 2 p.m. ceremony. The campus will have open parking the day of commencement with Lot N being designated handicap parking and Lot O being reserved for members of the commencement platform party.
Graduates are encouraged to park in the east parking garage behind Arts and Sciences Hall. All three levels will be opened for guest parking and UNO will provide shuttles from the garage to the Sapp Fieldhouse.

Speakers
Each of the two ceremonies will feature student speakers from the colleges’ graduate and undergraduate levels.
The speakers at the 9 a.m. ceremony will be Master of Science in Mathematics degree recipient Aimee Kessell, who previously graduated from UNO with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnolgy, and QueenTara Asia Pimentel, who will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication following a successful run as a member of the UNO Forensics team.
The speakers at the 2 p.m. ceremony will be doctoral degree recipient Catherine Humphries Brown, who will be receiving her degree from the School of Public Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration recipient Sana Hamid.
As part of the two ceremonies, each college will feature student marshals who will lead their fellow classmates into the Fieldhouse. Each student marshal was chosen by a vote from within his or her college.
Alumni Achievement
Each ceremony will also celebrate those who have already graduated, as the UNO Alumni Association will be presenting the Citation for Alumni Achievement awards.
This semester, citiations will be presented to three recipients between the two ceremonies. Kevin Munro, managing director for BMO Harris Bank in Omaha, will receive his citation at the 9 a.m. ceremony while Dr. Viv Ewing, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association of Nebraska, and her husband, Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing, Jr., will receive their citations at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
The UNO Citation for Alumni Achievement has been given to successful alumni since 1949 with more than 100 recipients having received the honor. The Ewings will be the first graduates to be presented with a citation award as a couple.
