Carol Kirchner, associate vice chancellor for business and finance at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), has been named the new associate vice president for business and finance for the University of Nebraska.
Kirchner, a certified public accountant, was selected for the role following a national search to replace Chris Kabourek, who, earlier this year, was named vice president and chief financial officer for the NU system. She is scheduled to begin the new role on Monday, Nov. 19.
As associate vice president for business and finance, Kirchner will lead a number of areas in support of the university's $2.6 billion operating budget, including procurement and travel, as well as providing financial leadership for the University of Nebraska system's Information Technology Services team.
In addition to her role at UNO, Kirchner has had a variety of roles serving the NU system. Kirchner originally came to UNO in 2014 as assistant vice chancellor for business and finance before taking on the associate vice chancellor role in 2016.
Prior to UNO, Kirchner spent 20 years at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) serving in several positions, including controller, director of accounting and business systems and internal audit manager. Kirchner has also worked as an auditor for the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts.
Kirchner earned an Master of Business Administration degree from UNO in 1999 and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991.
A transition plan for Office of Business and Finance will be shared with campus as soon as one is finalized.
