Joe Hobza, Custodian for Environmental Services at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for March 2025. He was praised for his adaptability, strong work ethic, and positive influence within the custodial team.
One nominator said, "Joe has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude in his role as a custodial worker. Joe has been part of the custodial department at UNO for 25 years and goes above and beyond every day. He makes a significant impact on our workplace environment and the overall well-being of the campus community and visitors. His extensive knowledge, dedication, and leadership within the custodial department make him the ideal candidate for Employee of the Month."
His colleagues also highlighted his adaptability and leadership in managing unexpected challenges.
“Often, the priorities for custodial duties can shift unexpectedly, but Joe always adapts quickly. For example, when large events are scheduled, he immediately adjusts his routine to accommodate extra cleaning tasks, ensuring the facility is prepared and looking its best for all attendees. Joe’s ability to adapt to ever-changing demands, challenges, and priorities truly sets him apart.”
For being named as Employee of the Month, Hobza received a certificate, a hot/cold tumbler provided by the Maverick Store (formerly the UNO Bookstore), a monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event, and use of a designated parking space.
