Fraternities and sororities are unique student organizations recognized by UNO for having individual chapters. Each chapter at UNO has specific requirements that must be met in order for it to be considered in good standing.
General Chapter Requirements
The following is required of each chapter at all times, and is determined by the UNO and the FSL staff:
-
Each chapter must maintain a minimum of four members that are currently in good academic standing as undergraduate students at UNO.
-
Chapter’s term GPA cannot be less than 0.20 of the respective male/female university GPA for that term.
Ex. If the all male GPA for the Fall 2022 semester is 3.0, each fraternity's GPA can be no lower than 2.8 for Fall 2022.
3. Chapter must abide by the following:
- All local, state and federal laws.
- UNO Student Code of Conduct
- Respective council constitution, bylaws and recruitment bylaws.
- Omaha Greeks Policy
Membership
Each chapter must be tethered to a national member of either the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), National Panhellenic Council (NPC), or one of the Multi-Cultural National Councils. Along with this membership requirement, each chapter must actively participate in the respective UNO Council equivalent. If an existing chapter in good standing withdraws membership from one of these national organizations, that chapter must receive written permission from the Office of Student Activities to continue operating as a recognized chapter at UNO.
Advisor
Each chapter must maintain at least one advisor who is either an alumnus of the respective national organization or a UNO faculty/staff member whose contact information is on file via Presence.
Executive Board
Each chapter must provide names and contact information for their executive board members to the FSL staff following each election or change in position.
Rosters
A chapter officer is expected to monitor their chapter’s roster and complete a Presence roster addition or removal form whenever members enter or leave the chapter. Finalized rosters are due November 1st and April 1st.
Chapter Transition on Presence
Chapters are required to transition their chapter via Presence in order to receive the status and benefits of an active, registered organization (see minimum requirements for more information). Renewals must include an updated roster of all members, officers, and advisor contact information, and any amendments to the constitution. It is the responsibility of the current or outgoing officers to submit transitions. If your chapter’s Presence page is not renewed, the chapter will fall out of good standing with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
