February 14th | Peggy Jones | Storytelling as a Pedagogical Tool | An effective story happens in a particular moment, has a clear timeline, utilizes emotions along with information, describes characters to care about, and something at stake. We love stories. They can engage and connect us to one another and inform us in ways that might not occur otherwise. A story can be a powerful pedagogical tool. Come hear how to use this creative method! |
March 14th | Gina Toman | Know Thyself | Be Thyself | Love Thyself | Lao Tzu, Chinese Taoist Philosopher once said, “Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; Mastering yourself is true power.” This interactive session will focus on the value of self-awareness and strategies for maximizing its benefits throughout your life journey. Join us for an empowering, uplifting dose of “you time!” |

Liz Tolliver | The Link Connecting Emotional and Multicultural Competence: Advocation for Continued Awareness | The initial quest was a study of emotional competence and its impact on supervisory relationships. However, what was found was a truly meaningful relationship between emotional and multicultural competencies. Research suggests that high emotional competence is positively correlated to a higher quality of life, as well as deeper, more meaningful connections. Multicultural competency provides a base of understanding, as well as increased awareness of the unknown in those who are not like ourselves. Could it be the intersectionality of emotional and multicultural competence that makes the difference in how we view ourselves, the world around us, and advocating for unity? |

Further, the session will highlight policy and implications for improving work-life integration in academic settings.
