Secondary Education Master's and Endorsement Programs
Designed for those teaching young people in secondary schools across a variety of curricular areas, our Secondary Education program offers an integrated approach to developing the skills and dispositions needed for today’s educational environments. Choose a program of study that will allow you to explore both content and pedagogy.
The master's program is designed for graduates of education programs who have received initial teacher certification and wish to enhance their teaching skills through advanced studies in instructional practices that are informed by research.
Secondary Education Graduate Program Options
You can choose how you want to complete your master's degree program.
Students seeking admission to graduate programs in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences should first apply through the Office of Graduate Studies at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Concentrations
Concentrations are required for each candidate seeking a Master of Science Degree in Secondary Education. Students will choose an area of concentration in a special field which will provide depth in an area of interest. Courses within the concentrations will be decided upon in conference with the student's advisor.
Totally Online Secondary Education Graduate Concentrations
Totally Online Concentrations meet synchronously through digital technology (eg: Zoom) at four scheduled times throughout the semester, with asynchronous work in between digital touchpoints. Dates can be found in the class notes when registering.
Classes often meet once a month during the weekend throughout the school year to allow more flexibility for students. Classes meet for 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Summer classes meet every week in June (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) for a total of four sessions.
Blended Secondary Education Graduate Concentrations
Blended Concentrations include a mix of in-person hybrid courses (860 sections) and online courses (850 sections). Regardless of the format, courses meet four times throughout the semester (i.e. 860 sections meet four times on campus; 850 sections meet four times via Zoom) with asynchronous work in between touchpoints.
